About the event
Join author Malcolm Himschoot (Reading Secrets: A Queer Inheritance of Life and Scripture) to explore the inner work that propels social change, and the wider context that makes contemplative writing so urgent.
This hour-long workshop will share examples of writers and texts whose work spanned multiple roles, using their words to make a difference for those around them or for future generations. We will consider the relationship between writing and activism, and reflect on our own personal and public forms on engagement. Participants will leave with gleanings of inspiration for ongoing development of craft and calling.
Bonus: Bring with you a short passage from one of your favorite author-activist ancestors to read aloud! We will commemorate some who have died this year, including Ursula K. LeGuin, Wendell Berry and Mary Oliver.
