Tell your life in words & pictures: A beginner’s workshop with Karen Vermeulen and Laura Camacho Frias

If your life were a book, what would you write and what would you draw?

Every life is made up of moments, memories and relationships. Inspired by Laura Camacho Frias’s novel Unwritten, about a thirteen-year-old boy who discovers his missing mother’s secret memoir, and Karen Vermeulen’s illustrated cover for the book, this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop will show you how to turn stories into words and pictures.

You’ll be guided through simple drawing techniques to create figures and details that represent the important people and moments in your life. You’ll explore how color and lines can show the connections between them, while Laura will help you find a title and write short phrases that bring your story to life.

By the end, you’ll have created your own personal life story told through words and drawings.

No drawing or writing experience needed! Just bring a pencil, eraser, pen, paper and some coloured pens or pencils.
