This incredible host of South African poets, novelists, dramatists, and oral storytellers bring their unique craft to the short story form, giving readers an intimate look at the country’s rural and urban life, from white suburbia to black township and beyond. Post Traumatic boasts a truly diverse collection of authors writing across many languages, from established fifties thinkers, to black consciousness activists of the seventies, to writers who first appeared in print after the fall of apartheid. As these artists explore childhood, love, hate, reconciliation, the grim, and the funny, they weave a brilliant tapestry of South Africa as it used to be and as it is today.
Post Traumatic features short stories from Ken Barris, Roy Blumenthal, Finuala Dowling, Michael Gardiner, Rachelle Greeff, Allan Kolski Horwitz, Barry Hough, Maureen Isaacson, Rayda Jacobs, Farida Karodia, Moira Lovell, Maropodi Mapalakanye, Johnny Masilela, Geina Mhlophe, Roshila Nair, Zachariah Raphola, Arja Salafranca, Ivan Vladislavic, George Weideman, Chris van Wyk, and Booker Prize shortlistedauthor of Bitter Fruit, Achmat Dangor.
